It can happen in the blink of an eye. You turn your back for just a moment and when you turn back around your bag or wallet is gone.

Pickpockets 1

The summer travel season is coming soon–the time when pickpockets are most active. The best pickpockets analyze their targets very carefully. They are like a lion watching its prey and travelers are often their favorite targets. When you are in an unfamiliar place it is easy to get distracted. That moment of distraction is what the pickpocket is waiting for.

10 Worst Cities for Pickpockets

Pickpockets have some very sophisticated techniques. Many work in pairs. While one pickpocket distracts the victim the other does the stealing. Some play on your good will. For example, one drops change on the ground so that you will help them pick it up. While you’re kneeling on the ground the second pickpocket steals your bag. The pros often use a prop like a coat or a shopping bag to hide their activity from you. They are coming up with new techniques all the time.

Here are some simple tips to protect yourself. No matter how trustworthy a stranger may seem, don’t be distracted by friendly talk, etc. Keep everything in your view. Never hang your bag behind you; hold it under your arm. You should never keep your wallet in your back pocket. Better yet, use a money belt. If something is easy for you to reach, it’s easy for the crook to reach, too. That’s why you need to place your valuable items in hard to reach spots like the bottom of your bag. In particularly dangerous areas try carrying a decoy wallet.

None of these techniques are perfect, but if you are prepared, the pickpocket most likely will move on to an easier target.

A mother and her small children faced a very tough choice when their car overheated and burst into flames on a visit to a safari park in the UK.

Helen Clements and her son and daughter were visiting the Longleat Safari Park in Wiltshire, England on last Friday. While they were driving through the lion enclosure at the park the family car started to overheat and it caught on fire. At that moment the mother had to decide whether to stay in the burning car and wait for help or get out and hope the lions don’t come.

They decided to get out. But as soon as she started leaving the car with her children the park rangers started yelling at them to get back into the car, which they did promptly.

Luckily for Helen and her children, help came soon. While one ranger distracted the lions, another ranger drove up alongside the family’s vehicle and got them to safety. And it was just in time. Their car was completely engulfed in flames just moments after their rescue.

Afterwards, the mother commented on their terrible luck.

“Why couldn’t it be in the flamingos or the camels? But no, it had to be in the lion enclosure?”

Talk about bad timing. I can’t think of a worse time to have a breakdown.

Do you have trouble keeping up with your things? Are you constantly misplacing items and wasting your precious time hunting for them? Then the Lapa may be what you need.

Lapas communicating

The Lapa is a device that you attach to something you don’t want to lose. When you do misplace an object with a Lapa, you use the Lapa App on your smart phone to search for it. You can scan a Lapa up to 70 meters away in optimum conditions. But the Lapa’s real power lies in its network. As a Lapa communicates with other Lapas in a Lapa network, you can find your Lapa virtually anywhere. For example, when another Lapa comes near your lost Lapa it will update your Lapa’s position automatically but without accessing its data. Your data is always securely protected.

Lapa vs quarter

A Lapa is hardly bigger than a quarter and weighs only five grams. They are powered by a CR2016 battery, which can last up to eight months and are easily replaceable. You can manage an unlimited number of Lapas with the Lapa App. You can even manage your friends’ Lapas if they need help finding them.

Lapas can be attached to almost anything you don’t want to lose. You can stick it on or hang it from a string or just drop it inside.

Lapa and wallet

Lapas even work with social media. You can share access to your Lapa with friends on Facebook and they can help you find it. Or if you choose, you can use the ‘Go Public’ feature and ask for help from the whole Lapa community. Anyone can help you search with the free Lapa App.

Lapas are expected to start shipping this April. Find out more about the Lapa at the following link: http://lapa-app.com/

[/tippy] but the inhabitants of the island don’t know that. In fact, the Sentinelese people know almost nothing of the outside world. They have never seen a cell phone, a car or even a book.

It is believed that the Sentinelese first came to the island around 60,000 years ago from Africa. Over the years, people from the outside have tried to visit the island, but each time they have been met by attacks. The Sentinelese do not welcome any kind of contact with the outside world. Because of this, we know little about them. We know nothing about their culture, their language or even how many there are. There could be only 40 or as many as 400.

In 1974, a film crew went to the island to make a documentary. The project came to a quick end, however. Sentinelese warriors attacked their boats with arrows and spears from the beach. One of the film crew was was hit in the leg by a 2.5-meter long arrow. (See the video from the documentary below.) There have been other attempts to visit the island. But they always in a similar way.

The island is under the control of India now and the Indian Navy maintains a 5-kilometer buffer zone around the island, which makes it practically impossible for anyone to get to the island. Currently, the Indian government has no plans to make contact with the islanders, which is probably for the best.
